The complete operating chain

An AMI program may involve meters, communications, concentrators, HES, MDMS, billing or other integrations, cybersecurity controls, field procedures, customer engagement, training and support. The selected architecture depends on geography, service conditions, coverage, existing systems and the utility’s operating priorities.

Why pilots need decisions

A pilot should test explicit questions: communications performance in representative terrain, data completeness, event handling, installation workflow, systems integration, user roles and support escalation. A pilot without acceptance criteria can demonstrate equipment without proving readiness.

Align executives, engineering, IT, commercial teams and operations around the use case. Confirm the controlling TOR and system boundaries. Then design a representative pilot with measured acceptance gates and an evidence-backed rollout decision.
